More dictionary practice

Mrs Reed, an English teacher, has again provided us with another dictionary skills powerpoint.  In this one, we look at how we can find words which have different meaning so that we do not write silly translation!

Le Petit Chaperon Rouge

Year 8 have been working on "Le Petit Chaperon Rouge" from the wonderful Northumberland grid for learning website.

So far, we have learnt the perfect and imperfect tenses to help us understand the story.  We have also revised adjectives.   We have worked on phonemes and how to pronounce different words. 

In the lesson, we are going to concentrate on how the story is told and work out the way you can introduce new ideas.

1- Look at your booklets from pages 4 to 7 and read with a partner, concentrate on the pronunciation looking at the sounds:

EU- OU- OI- AN Find words with thes sounds in the text

On page 4-  Which words are important for introducing new ideas?

On page 5- Comment dit-on  "he wanted"?-  Using the  dictionary which verb is it in the Infinitive

  Comment dit-on "as soon as possible"?

On page 6- Which words are you finding difficult to understand-  With a partner work out the meaning and check with 2 other students before checking in the dictionary.   Give yourself a mark on the work that you have done so far!

On page 7- Find a verb in the infinitive, in the present tense, in the past tense and in the immediate future-  Check with partners.  How did you do?

Le week-end dernier

We have been using different tools in the classroom to produce role-plays. Recently, I was recommended xtranormal, a progamme which produces movies from texts.  Here is my first attempt, make yourown and send it to me

Bébe Lily- célèbre pour la chanson "Les bêtises " que nous utilisons pour le passé composé- a produit une chanson intitulée "Les fantômes"-   Regardez la vidéo et faites les exercises suivants

1. How many times do you here the word Fantôme in the text?
2. Find adjectives which describe the ghosts?
3. What time is it
4. Name a country mentionned in the song

Le passé composé

Year 8 and 10 have been working on le "Passé-Composé.  During the lessons, I have used the following Powerpoints which I acquired from another on MFL resources forum a few years ago.  I do not know the author but would like to thank him or her.  The Powerpoints are easy to follow and should help you undestand / revise

1.  Passé Composé-  avec avoir (Perfect tense using to have)
2.  Passé Composé-  avec être (Perfect tense using to be)

You can also get a lot of help from The languages on line website-  choose French and then scroll down to Grammar and do the exercises on Perfect tense.

In class, we have been listening to "Les bêtises by Bébé Lily"-  this is the story of a little girl who gets up to a lot of mischief when her parents are out

In order to make regular progress in the classroom, use French as much as possible to ask for help and talk to your friends.  Look at the words / sentences below and remember them.  You can addd to them as you feel more confident.  Being adventurous in the language will be very rewarding and you will certainly earn extra credit.

• On entering the classroom, use French greetings

Moi, ça va /  Moi, ça ne va pas / Moi, ça va comme-ci, comme-ça

• During registration, get to used to answer the register in French, try to add some comments on the weather, about yourself.

Je suis là -  je suis présente - I am here

il / elle est malade / en vacances / avec monsieur ( madame) X

Je voudrais .... s'il te plaît (for your friend), s'il vous plaît(for an adult)  -I would like please

Il / elle est absente / n'est pas là aujourd'hui  - He/ she is ill today / isn't here today

• When asking or being given something, use the following

S'il te plaît (for your friend) / S'il vous plaît (for an adult)

Oui / non / merci / de rien!  -you are welcome

• When you need help, you can use some very simple sentences

J'ai un problème

Aidez-moi s'il vous plaît - Help me please

Je ne comprends pas - I do not understand

Comment dit-on?  -How do you say?

Comment ça s'écrit - How do you write?

C'est vrai / c'est faux  -It is true / It is false

Les animaux extraordinaires

 Year 8 group 3 have produced some very good work in French this term with Miss Burton and need to be congratulated on what they achieved.

First we studied parts of the body. We learnt this by doing some body aerobics and we learnt the song Jean Petit qui danse (see last year post)

Then we revised wild animal vocabulary: Les animaux sauvages

We used some of the pictures to create new animals for the zoo, here is the Challenge  that we were given.

We were given some sentences to help us create our new animal:  Writingframe

We spent several lessons creating our animals.  We made big posters and recorded our descriptions.

To finish we played the recoring and listened to the work done by our friends.  We assessed each other work.  That was a very enjoyable project.
