Do something new in French this summer! Depending on your level or ability there is always something that you can do to keep up with your French.

Buy a French newspaper or magazine – and maybe an
ice cream – pass an afternoon in the garden reading.
Browse for new French bands on Myspace. Or get a
free account from Spotify.com and
discover something more mainstream. You could use the bestseller lists on amazon.fr or fnac.com to get you started.
Find a French poem, learn the words by heart, then learn to love them. Website: poesie.webnet.fr Prévert is really good and really simple. Read a classic French novel in English or Harry Potter in French.
Learn to make a French dish. (recipe available here). Learn to make a really good vinaigrette or mayonnaise. Your command of French verbs will improve dramatically.
Send all your favourite teachers a postcard in
French (+ school address)
Investigate the life of a famous Frenchwoman –
maybe Aliénor d’Aquitaine, Jeanne d’Arc, Madame de Pompadour, Louise Michel,
Simone de Beauvoir.
Be inspired by French landscapes the National Gallery’s Corot to Monet exhibition. Websites: nationalgallery.org.uk , Fondation Monet or Le Louvres (for some background reading).
Start writing about what you have read or seen
this week. Add comments and your
feelings.
Explore French film. Look out for the film Coco
avant Chanel, in cinemas this summer. Other films you should watch if you
haven’t already include: Jean de Florette, Les Visiteurs, Les Choristes- For older students Amélie, Un long Dimanche
de Fiançailles
Watch your favourite English Film in French. You will be able to concentrate on the French
as you already know the story well.
Load some French songs onto your iPod
Listen to a French Radio for 15 minutes regularly

is quite popular with teenagers)
Watch French video clips on TF1 musique
Keep up with the news, watch Mon jt quotidien or M6.
