Year 11 are preparing their oral presentation on the theme of work. We all know how important it is to use connectives so at the beginning of the lesson, we have practised saying how many we can remember in one minute.
We have also watched a couple of rolling powerpoint and tried to remember the order of the words. This is helping working on memory skills.
One task that students also like doing are pair reading where they are given a text with different options. One student must guess her partner word, if she fails she must start from the beginning again and again until she gets the text right. When they have finished, I ask them to say the text from memory and they often do it very accurately.
To practise questions and answers, we do 2 types of activities- One is what is the question? I give students an answer and they need to work out the question, this make them focus on question words, which they often do not know. The second is speed dating. Each student has a question in front of her and need to ask this question to the person opposite her, her partner must answer the question and speak until I ring my bell. This certainly stimulates conversation.
My tips for preparation is to practise with a friend using the method above. Record yourself and listen critically. Are you speaking clearly? Is your pronunciation good? Make sure that you do not rush what you are saying and do not panic.
With regular practice, you should be well prepared for your exam.
