So far, we have learnt the perfect and imperfect tenses to help us understand the story. We have also revised adjectives. We have worked on phonemes and how to pronounce different words.
In the lesson, we are going to concentrate on how the story is told and work out the way you can introduce new ideas.
1- Look at your booklets from pages 4 to 7 and read with a partner, concentrate on the pronunciation looking at the sounds:
EU- OU- OI- AN Find words with thes sounds in the text
On page 4- Which words are important for introducing new ideas?
On page 5- Comment dit-on "he wanted"?- Using the dictionary which verb is it in the Infinitive
Comment dit-on "as soon as possible"?
On page 6- Which words are you finding difficult to understand- With a partner work out the meaning and check with 2 other students before checking in the dictionary. Give yourself a mark on the work that you have done so far!
On page 7- Find a verb in the infinitive, in the present tense, in the past tense and in the immediate future- Check with partners. How did you do?
See how much you have understood by doing the following exercise:
To reinforce what we have learnt so far, it is quite important to look at some texts and start using the language. We looked at two schools, one in Burkina Faso and the other one in Belgium.
Work through the slides on Burkina Faso. To help with your understanding, you need to do the following
Look at the words that you already know. Copy them on your whiteboard / exercise-book.
Look for cognates. Again write them down. Discuss with your partner
Look at the words that you do not understand- Can the picture help you? Read the full sentence, knowing what the text is about can help you work out the meaning. Discuss with a partner and share with the rest of the class.
Read the text aloud with your partner. Remember your phoneme, which sound are you using?
Work through the slides on Belgium. Work the same way as on Burkina Faso but this time we are going to focus on verbs.
What is a verb? What goes in front? Remember what we learnt on être and avoir!
Make a note in your book of the verbs that you have identified on the slides on Belgium. Can you notice something?
3) General cultural theme
Make a list of the difference between the school in Burkina Faso and the school in Belgium. Think about the differences between your own school and the other two. Write short sentences using
Il y a ....
Il n'y a pas de ....
Exemple: Au Burkina Faso, il y a beaucoup d'élèves dans la classe.
En Belgique, il n'y a pas d'uniforme.
Watch the following Powerpoint- Thanks to Miss Burton on her contribution for the Belgium school.
