Year 10 have been working on introducing themselves. They have done this quite a lot in Year 7, 8 and 9, so I thought that it would be better if they presented a puppet each. They spent part of the lesson looking at some texts and adapting them to their character. This allowed us also to revise dictionary skills. Here are some of the presentation which were made. I enjoy using songs in my classroom and as someone mentioned Stromae "Alors on danse" and that it could be linked with a phoneme lesson, I thought that Year 10 would enjoy it. Here is how the lesson went:
I played the song as they entered the classroom. Gave them the lyrics cut out and they had to put them in the right order. Then we looked at the lyrics and did some sound discrimination- Find as many words as you can with the sound- a / eu/ ou/ ille etc. They worked quite well and were able to recognise the sounds studied in the previous lesson.
They were keen to work out the meaning of the words in the song. I asked them to look for 5 words (their own choice) in the dictionary- When finished, they had to share their findings with other students so that they learnt from each other. We then explained the song in English and everyone left the room singing!!!
Next time, we will revise the present tense, we will try to recognise all the verbs in the present tense in the song and work out how to recognise irregular verbs when using the dictionary.
