What makes a piece of coursework worthy of A* or a C. What do you need to include?
1- Answer the question in full. Your title is an account of a holiday. Make sure that you talk about a holiday not a day at the seaside.
2- Develop your answers, add opinions, descriptions and present them in an orderly fashion. (Your piece of written work need to flow).
3- Check you grammar. Check your written work with a ruler and concentrate of one aspect of the language at a time.
verbs (right tense? right endings)
noun (right gender)- Does this word really exist? -Is it the correct spelling (check in the dictionary)
adjectives- does it agree with the noun? Is it in the right place? (remember that most of the time adjectives follow the noun that they are describing).
adverbs (most will finish by -ment)
4- Use a good range of vocabulary and structures. Vary your language- "Il y a" can be replaced by "on trouve". To express opinions you can use: " Je pense que, je trouve que, je crois que, à mon avis" etc. Justifie by using "parce que, car, puisque". Contradict with "mais, cependant, ce que je déteste" etc.
Good tools to check your answers:
Dictionaries- Make sure that you look at the right meaning! Do not write the phonetics, Pron, adj (these describe what type of words it is)- Look at my post on dictionary skills if not sure! Also check in what context you are using the word as it can have different meanings! You do not want to make me laugh with the wrong translation!!
On line dictionaries can be useful - Check your English spellingto avoid coming with the wrong word in French!! The online dictionary that I use is www.wordreference.com- Again scroll down to find the meaning you need.
Looking at different pieces of writing:
Have a look at pieces of wok in your textbook and on the Internet and think on how you could improve. Mr Spain, a teacher in Bath created the following texts. Put them in order from the worst to the best and write a short evaluation using your marking scheme (Can be found on you exam board website)- How could you improve these? Bon courage.
